Underpinning

image image image

Underpinning of existing structures is usually required to strengthen or resupport a building, as part of a building renovation program or because a new adjacent building is being constructed. A.A. Will has undertaken some of the most difficult underpinning projects in greater Boston, including renovations to historic Faneuil Hall, originally constructed in the 1760's and the historic Harvard Memorial Hall, constructed in the 1870's. Difficult underpinning pits, sometimes excavated by hand, are constructed so that existing foundations can be strengthened or enlarged. Minipiles and jet grouting are also commonly used as part of the underpinning process.
